Single aged pension abuses human rights

5/09/2008 10:10:00 AM
I’M damned if I know... I’ve insulted, threatened, cajoled, yelled and screamed throughout my life about the hardship of single pensioners and all you get is someone saying they need $30 a week rise. They need $100. I’ve talked to people, I’ve talked to pensioners and the only answer I get is “What can I do?”

I’ll suggest something else: get a thousand single pensioners, jab an intravenous drip in their arm and plonk them on the lawn at Parliament House, Canberra. Maybe have a few bodgey nurses also and look like you’re starving to death.

Not even family will pummel the government. You won’t even have the couple pensioners on their side until one or the other dies and they drop to the single rate. Tell me I’m wrong!

You’re better off in jail, where you get everything laid on that you can’t afford or get in your life where you are, for free.

Well, I’ve told you before what’s going to happen with pensions and the aged. So be it.

The media should splash it in big bold letters on the front page, week after week until something happens, but that will never happen. Nobody really cares. It’s all just show.

Hypocrites talking about China and their human rights. If treating the aged like they do is not bad, then tell me what is.

I couldn't agree more. A couple on a pension use much the same amount of electricity, gas, TV, computer, petrol, food, etc. as a single person, yet the single person gets half the double rate and still has to pay out for all these things. I was pleased to hear that we were at least going to be given the paltry amount of $30. Is that per week or fortnight? Might pay for one trip into town to spend the rest on food.
