Rural communities conference success

22/07/2008 9:01:00 AM
PLEASE allow me, through your paper, to thank all of those who assisted with and who attended the Regenerative Energy for Rural Communities Conference at the Roxy Theatre, Bingara last week. More than 90 people participated and the presentations were uniformly excellent.

The regional conference confirmed our concerns for the impact of global warming, peak oil, and rising electricity costs that we can anticipate in the years ahead, but, it also gave us great hope and enthusiasm for solutions to be found, and initiated at a community level.

Once our reports have been summarised, they will be made available through your publication. Bingara and District Vision 2020 particularly thank the Gwydir Shire Council and its staff for their wonderful support.

On Friday, August 15, Vision 2020 will hold its annual general meeting at the Roxy, with a dinner to follow. It will be a significant meeting, with a compulsory “changing of the guard”, and the election of a new executive team to take us forward.

We invite and will particularly welcome all business people, community representatives and citizens who are interested in the way forward for our community and rural communities generally. Tickets for the dinner are $25 and available through the Bingara Tourist Information Centre from Friday, phone 6724 0066.
