Skills day give young basketballers something to shoot for

TAMWORTH hosted a basketball skills day last weekend in which participants had the opportunity to play for a place at an elite camp for the best players in NSW.

The under 12 skills day held at the Tamworth Thunderdome was well attended, which only made picking the best players even harder.

Following the session, 11 boys and three girls were chosen to be among the 79 players selected to go to Port Macquarie for the State camp.

“The boys’ numbers have been outstanding,” co-ordinator Karen Irwin said.

“This year we’ve got 27, which is pleasing.

“That’s a good roll-up.

“They all play rep for their home associations except for a couple who have just come along.”

The players came from all over the region with Tamworth, Armidale, Gunnedah, Quirindi and Manilla all represented.
