SPOCK and Tracy O’Hara were both beaming as they crossed the line to win the Gunnedah Lightning earlier this month (photo right) and owner/trainer Michael Parkinson is hoping they can produce the same happy result at Scone tomorrow.
The pair swamped their rivals to win at Gunnedah, clocking a swift 57.7secs into the bargain.
And Parkinson has booked O’Hara to ride his six-year-old again in tomorrow’s $100,000 Casino Prince Quality Handicap (1000m).
“You don’t change a winning combination do you,” Parkinson said this week.
“Tracy will be on him again.
“And they couldn’t have been any wider at Gunnedah either. I don’t know what time they might have run if they’d drawn the fence.”
Spock has won eight of his 29 starts for Parkinson for just 57, 500 in prizemoney.
He’s also had four starts at Scone for a win and a second.
Running in a $100,000 event on your home, country track doesn’t happen too often, Parkinson said.
“There’s not that much around to suit him either,” he said.
“And we don’t have to travel for hours, it’s here on our doorstep.” Parkinson was hopeful of gaining a run in the Casino Prince.
If he doesn’t he has nominated him for the 1300m Horsepower Open.
The Casino Prince won’t be an easy race either with some talented opposition.
“There are a few handy ones in it,” he said.
“But you have to be in form for a race like this.
“It’s what happens on the day.”
Spock showed he is back in form after his commanding win at Gunnedah which would have had any Star Trek fan beaming with delight as O’Hara and thoroughbred Spock were in Paul Mathews’ classic shot.
