TAMWORTH Division 2 Under 12 girls’ basketball side might not have won in the Northern Junior League as yet, but their coach believes the eager youngsters are building up well.
Terry Flemming coaches a team which has lost its first four NJL games.
He said coaching the “bottom age side “is all about fun and fitness.
“I’ve just been teaching them the basics, passing and shooting,” Flemming told The Leader at last Friday’s training session.
“It’s all about having fun. I haven’t done any real fitness yet, was going to start that today.”
He said the side is made up mainly of “nine and 10 year-olds”.
“We’re just getting them ready for Div 1 next year,” he said.
“They have been going well. Played a couple of Div 1 sides and a couple of Div 2 teams, haven’t won yet but they are improving.
“We play a couple of Div 1 sides and a couple of Div 2 teams next weekend. After that we split into our own Div 2 comp. I’m pretty confident they will go well in Div 2.”
While the side is winless its has done well in the four games so far.
“We played the Coffs Div 1 side and they beat us 105-16, then Lismore only beat us 32-20 and Coffs 2 beat us about 40 to 20 something and then against Bellingen we only lost by four.”
