A FREE forum for sports clubs and schools to raise awareness of safety in sport was held at the Tamworth Department of Sport and Recreation office on Thursday.
The forum focused on a range of sports safety issues including injury prevention and insurance available if an injury does occur.
The forum also touched on the processes of obtaining grants and what grants were on offer.
NSW Sporting Injuries Insurance Scheme executive officer Sonya Jenkins and team assistant Vernise Rowe were guest speakers and spoke of the 1978 scheme which provided affordable player accident and injury insurance cover for amateur and professional sports people.
The scheme’s player accident insurance provides 12-month coverage to all authorised activities of the sporting organisation including all sporting events, trials, practices and training.
The Tamworth forum was part of a series of seminars to be held across the State this year.
