CRAVING that sweet-tooth fix at work today? Crave no more as The Cancer Council cooks will be running around the Tamworth CBD today delivering plates of goodies to help keep staffers’ energy up so they can remain hard at work the whole day through.
It is the first time The Cancer Council volunteers have tried this new Biggest Morning Tea fundraising approach, after the annual morning tea in Ray Walsh House become too difficult to run due to OH and S and other issues, events team leader Margaret Rock said.
“We already have 80 platters booked and we will make up about 100 platters so if anyone wants any they can call the office and we can drop one off,” she said.
Mrs Rock said she and 13 other women had worked tirelessly making dozens of slices, biscuits and cakes for the big day.
Calrossy Catholic College and Peel High School also helped out, showing off their talents in the kitchen.
“We have jelly cream, caramel and cherry ripe slices as well as brownies and many other cakes, slices and cookies,” Mrs Rock said.
“We made about three slices each but we had to beat off the husbands – they’re worse than children. We had to trim the edges and feed them those just to get some peace,” Denise Sullivan, who was helping out for the first time, said. Some other volunteers said they had been helping out for more than a decade.
If you’re drooling over your keyboard right now don’t worry because the plates of culinary delights are $5, with at least five pieces to go on each plate.
