COONABARABRAN is a win away from the women’s No.3 State pennants final while South Tamworth needs a miracle to reach the decider after repeating Tuesday’s effort with a win and a loss at Tamworth City yesterday.
Coona lost its first game outright yesterday, which was a big blow to its chances, but an outright win in the afternoon over Merrylands kept the side in it.
The loss to Leeton and District included a one-point loss in one rink and that one shot might come back to haunt Coona.
It can secure a place in the final with an outright win over Cronulla RSL this morning.
“We need to win both rinks to get the five points,” Coona team manager Chris Wood said.
“It depends on what Merrylands does because we’re only half a point in front of them.
“But we’ve played some tremendous bowls.
“The opposition sides have been good too.”
Coona has had success at these events before and knows that playing consistently well is the key.
“We won the number fours last year,” Wood said.
“So we know what it’s all about, all the stress.
“But it all comes down to how you bowl on the day.
“We were a bit unlucky this morning because we played some good bowls but the opposition played better.
“If you haven’t got any bullets left in the gun there’s nothing you can do about it.”
The winner of Coona’s section will play the winner of South Tamworth’s which is wide open going into the last round.
Tura Beach, Crookwell and Newport Beach are the front-runners and all would have to lose this morning for South to sneak into the final.
South faces Crookwell, having lost to Tura and beaten Kemps Creek yesterday, both in split rink contests.
The other local side, Inverell, is in the running in the No.4 finals at North Tamworth, having only dropped half a point in its first three matches.
All four divisions continue today with the winners of the No.2, 3 and 4 pennants to be decided this afternoon.
