Army Reserve recruitment drive in full swing

23/07/2008 8:41:00 AM
YOUNG men and women were able to get up close and personal with a range of Army weapons and vehicles yesterday when representatives of the 12/16 Hunter River Lancers paid a visit to Tamworth’s TAFE campus.

The Lancers were at TAFE to highlight the range of part-time and full-time employment opportunities that are available via the local Army Reserve regiment, which has bases in Tamworth, Armidale and Muswellbrook.

As the only Army Reserve Unit in Australia equipped with the new state-of-the-art Bushmaster armoured vehicles, the 12/16 Hunter River Lancers (HRL) boast a unique range of career opportunities.

As part of their latest recruitment drive, HRL members will this week visit high schools throughout the Tamworth area, before heading to Muswellbrook, Armidale and the Maitland region as part of their search for new recruits.

The Army Reserve unit, in conjunction with Alliance People Solutions, is about to run a fully-funded, pre-traineeship course for four weeks full-time. The next course, titled the Defence Enlistment Preparation Course, begins in Tamworth on August 18.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for people who are serious about gaining a traineeship, as well as being part of the Australian Defence Forces Army Reserve,” Warrant Officer Class Two Shane Green said.

“We are offering full-time traineeships in

certificates two and three in either business administration, retail, or stores and warehousing, and combining that traineeship with a part-time career in the Army Reserve.

“Not only will successful applicants be placed with a local employer and gain full-time employment following the four-week course, but they will also join the ranks of the Army Reserve and gain tax-free pay.”

Former Defence Enlistment Preparation Course participants have been placed in traineeships with regional businesses including Harvey Norman, Capital Body Works and Lake Keepit State Park.

Information sessions on the Reserves are held at Tamworth’s Armidale Rd depot every Tuesday from 7.30pm.
