Do you want bricks and mortar with that?

AFTER months of manic organising and fundraising the Ronald McDonald house is about a week away from being built.

The house is taking shape on site, with the slab laid yesterday.

House promoter Kevin Anderson said the organisers were on schedule to meet their tight construction deadline.

"It's going along at 5000 miles an hour and the volunteer support from the tradies in this city is incredible," he said.

"That tight time frame was one we always wanted to stick to ? it galvanised people into action.

"It's simply amazing to watch people respond."

Once finished, the house will cater for five sick children and their families at any one time.

Located on the Tamworth Hospital grounds, it will feature a kitchen and living areas.

The committee is now counting down to next Friday when a three-day construction blitz on the house will begin.

More than 100 tradesmen will work together to complete the house to lock-up stage, working about 20 hours a day over that weekend.

"People can come along on Saturday at lunchtime for a huge community barbecue between noon and 2pm," Mr Anderson said.

"There will be a few celebrities on hand. (People) can come and have a look at the house and have a look at the builders working together."

Extra funds are still needed to furnish and maintain the house.

The City Plaza was the latest organisation to donate money.

Plaza marketing manager Joanna Larkham dropped by the site yesterday morning to look at the progress.

Ms Larkham said the $1500 donation had come from plaza retailers and they were hoping to make another contribution towards the house.
